Canadiens F Laraque Suspended Five Games For Kronwall Hit
Monday, November 23, 2009Posted by
Montreal Canadiens enforcer Georges Laraque was given a five-game suspension by the National Hockey League for his knee-on-knee hit on Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall, according to TSN.
League disciplinarian Colin Campbell handed down the decision on Monday after hearing Laraque’s side of the story. Laraque denied his right for an in-person hearing, and instead of going to New York, he spoke with Campbell over the phone. The NHL still considered the phone call an in-person hearing, and therefore the league had the right to hand down a suspension of five or more games.
Kronwall will miss a month after suffering a Grade 3 sprain, which is considered to be the most severe sprain.
Kronwall had to be helped from the ice following the hit and was not able to put any weight on his left knee.
