Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall will be out at least a month with a injury to his left knee, according to the Associated Press.
The team announced on Sunday that Kronwall will miss significant time after spraining a ligament in his knee after taking take a knee-on-knee hit with Montreal forward Georges Laraque in Saturday’s game.
Laraque was called for a tripping penalty.
The Red Wings maintain that Laraque’s hit was dirty, while the Montreal enforcer called it an accident.
The NHL has decided to look into the hit, and a hearing is scheduled for Monday morning with the league's disciplinarian Colin Campbell.
Kronwall’s injury adds to the list for the Red Wings, who are without Johan Franzen, Valtteri Filpulla, and Jason Williams.
Kronwall has 13 points this season in 21 games. He is a plus-3.
