Dodgers Sign Korean High School Player
Thursday, June 18, 2009Posted by PJ Ross
The Dodgers signed 18-year old Tae-hyeok Nam to a minor-league contract on Tuesday. He is the first Korean high school players ever signed by Los Angeles.
Following in the footsteps of former Dodger Chan Ho Park, who became the first Korean born player to make the Major Leagues in 1994, Nam hopes to someday make the big league club.
Dodgers’ scout Logan White told MLB.com that Nam has, "good power and well above average speed."
Nam is still playing high school ball in Korea right now, and the first/third baseman has crushed 22 home runs in 65 games. He has a strong frame at 6'1", 200lbs., and also hit .314 this season. Complimented by an exemplary work ethic, White hopes that Nam can develop in what has become a strong minor league system.
The Dodgers have drafted and produced young talents such as Clayton Kershaw, Chad Billingsley, Matt Kemp, Blake DeWitt, and Jonathan Broxton, proving the dedication and skill of their minor league talent development.
It seems as if Nam is already a fan of the Boys in Blue. Said Nam in an interview with MLB.com, "The Los Angeles Dodgers are my favorite team."
