Dez Bryant Loses Final Appeal
Thursday, November 5, 2009Posted by James Oldham
Dez Bryant's final appeal to play college football again this season has been rejected by the NCAA.
The standout Oklahoma State wide receiver had missed the last five games due to an ineligibility ruling brought down by the school. Bryant initially lied to an NCAA investigator who was looking into Bryant's off season meeting with former NFL star corner back Deion Sanders.
After looking into the situation, the NCAA decided last week that Bryant would be ineligible until next September. Oklahoma State appealed to the NCAA's Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee with the hope that Bryant could return to the field sometime this season.
Dez Bryant is considered a highly touted NFL prospect, and it's doubtful that he will return to college football after the season has ended.
According to ESPN.com's Tim Griffin, Bryant had asked to be allowed to play again this season. In a letter he wrote to the NCAA, Bryant said he hopes that his "punishment is not so bad that I do not get to play football again at OSU."
Last season, Bryant hauled in 87 passes for 1,480 yards and 19 touchdowns.
