UConn player stabbed to death after homecoming victory

A University of Connecticut football player was stabbed to death early Sunday after an on-campus dance. This all was just hours after the Huskies got a homecoming victory over Louisville.
Connecticut’s starting cornerback Jasper Howard, 20, and wide receiver Brian Parker, 19, were both stabbed outside of the UConn Student Union after a pulled fire alarm forced an evacuation during a university-sponsored dance.
Parker was treated and released from a local hospital, while Howard died from a single stab wound to his abdomen. Howard is from the Miami, Fla. area and came to Connecticut to get away from the violence of his home town.
Howard had a career-high 11 tackles and a forced fumble Saturday night in the Huskies’ homecoming victory over Louisville. The night went from Howard receiving the game ball to such a tragic ending.
Howard’s death has shaken the UConn community and the many friends, former teammates and coaches that have known him.
Connecticut coach Randy Edsall will not postpone this Saturday’s game with West
Virginia because he says that is the way that Howard would like it.
The Huskies plan to honor Howard by wearing “JH” stickers on their helmets this weekend. West Virginia also plans to honor Howard before their matchup with UConn this Saturday in Morgantown, W. Va.
