Duke's Williams to Transfer to Memphis
Sunday, June 28, 2009Posted by
After being granted his release from Duke on Wednesday, Elliot Williams has decided to transfer to Memphis.
Williams was allowed to leave Duke based on concerns for the health of his mother, to whom he wanted to be closer.
The rising sophomore is expected to appeal to the NCAA for a hardship waiver would allow him to play for the Tigers this season.
Williams’ departure is another tough loss for a Duke team that has already seen star Gerald Henderson leave early for the NBA draft.
Williams averaged 4.2 points and 2.3 rebounds per game in 2008-2009.
