The San Francisco Giants locked up two critical bullpen arms last Thursday night, extending the contracts of relievers Jeremy Affeldt and Brian Wilson.
Wilson and the Giants agreed to a two-year, $15 million contract beginning in 2011, reported by CSN Bay Area and Andrew Baggarly of the San Jose Mercury News. Wilson will receive $6.5 million in 2011 and $8.5 million in 2012.
After his new contract expires, Wilson will remain under the Giants' control through the 2013 season, according to MLB Trade Rumors.
The 2008 All-Star followed up a good season with an even better one in 2009. Wilson lowered his ERA by almost two whole runs (2.74) last season while pitching 72.1 innings, which is 10 more than last season.
The 28-year-old right went 5-6 with 38 saves and a 1.203 WHIP.
Affeldt, who was one of baseball's best relievers last season, signed a two-year, $9.5 million contract, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
The left-handed reliever will earn $4.5 million in 2010 and 2011. The deal also includes a $5 million option for 2011 or could be bought out for $500,000 by the Giants.
Affeldt, 30, posted a 1.73 in 74 appearances last season. He went 2-2 in 62.1 innings pitched.
