Gregg Signs Two-Year Deal with Jays
Tuesday, February 2, 2010Posted by Andy Ouriel
Relief pitcher Kevin Gregg has agreed to a two-year, $2.75 million contract with the Toronto Blue Jays, reported by Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports and the Toronto Sun.
Gregg's deal can reach up to $12 million if two separate options are picked up, according to Jon Heyman of SI.com.
Gregg, 31, went 5-6 with 23 saves and a 4.72 ERA in 68.2 innings pitched for the Chicago Cubs last season. Gregg lost his closing duties after allowing a career-high 13 home runs while averaging nearly four walks per nine innings.
The Blue Jays had a major-league low 25 saves in 2009, and with Gregg figured to be the team's closer on Opening Day, they hope he will be celebrating plenty in the 9th inning.
