Ovechkin Sidelined with Upper Body Injury
Wednesday, November 4, 2009Posted by Patricia Rivas
Alexander Ovechkin's status is week-to-week after suffering an upper-body strain in Sunday evening's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The injury possibly occurred during a shoving match with Jason Chimera. Ovechkin left the game after landing on his left arm during the second period.
"Hopefully it's no more than two weeks," stated coach Bruce Boudreau.
Ovechkin has only missed two NHL games due to injury since 2005. The question now is: Will the Capitals be able to stay afloat without him?
"We have a really good team and we will be able to show that to everyone else now," said captain Chris Clark, according to ESPN.com
While Ovechkin believes he may return for Friday's game against the Florida Panthers, Boudreau thinks it's a reach. The star player plans to travel with the team regardless.
"I don't want to stay at home and watch the game at home, I want to travel and I want to be part of the team, too," stated Ovechkin.
