Tigers Land Washburn
Friday, July 31, 2009Posted by Eddie Carroll
The A.L. Central leading Detroit Tigers bolstered their rotation Friday, acquiring veteran lefthander Jarrod Washburn from the Seattle Mariners just hours before the 2009 trade deadline.
Washburn, who is having an outstanding season (8-6, 2.64 E.R.A.), will leave one pitcher’s paradise in Seattle’s Safeco Field for another in Detroit’s Comerica Park. He joins a rotation that already includes right-handers Justin Verlander and Edwin Jackson, both of whom are also having stellar 2009 campaigns.
In exchange for the 34 year old southpaw, the Mariners received left-handed starter Luke French and minor league prospect Mauricio Robles.
French, who had started five games with the Tigers this season, was 1-2 with a 3.38 E.R.A during his time in Detroit.
