Peavy headed to White Sox – again
Friday, July 31, 2009Posted by Eddie Carroll
The Chicago White Sox acquired Padres right-hander Jake Peavy for the second time this season in a deadline deal that sent four pitchers to San Diego.
Peavy, who has been on the disabled list since June 13th with a foot injury, surprisingly waived the same no-trade clause that he used earlier this season to block a similar trade to Chicago.
The National League's 2007 Cy Young award winner, Peavy isn’t expected to pitch again this season until late August, at the earliest.
Headed to San Diego are promising lefthanders Clayton Richard and Aaron Poreda, along with two additional minor league starters.
Richard, 25, was 4-3 with a 4.65 E.R.A. in split time between Chicago’s bullpen and starting rotation.
Poreda, who is just 22 years old, also saw limited time at the Major League level this season, throwing 11 innings out of the White Sox bullpen. He gave up just three earned runs while striking out 12.
