Mississippi State Star Running Back Cited for DUI

Mississippi State’s offensive star Anthony Dixon was arrested over the weekend for DUI charges, and his status for the season has not yet been decided.

It was reported that Dixon was driving his Chevrolet Impala through parking spaces on the side of the road, which led to him being pulled over. The officer then found him intoxicated with two empty champagne bottles in the back floorboard of his car.

The officer said that Dixon’s speech was slurred and he refused to take a field sobriety test. Dixon was also given citations for careless driving and no proof of liability insurance, according to the report.

Last year, Dixon was able to rush for 869 yards and seven touchdowns. He ran for 1,066 yards and 14 touchdowns as a sophomore in 2007.

Dixon is by far the most explosive weapon on the Bulldogs offense and has been planned to run the ball plenty in the upcoming season, but that game plan may be adjusted depending on his punishment. Dixon has even been playing some at the receiver and quarterback position in practice since the team should be much more productive if he gets more touches.

Head coach Dan Mullen has a big decision coming with how he will deal with this off-field incident. Since Mullen has taken over, four Mississippi State players have been arrested for drugs or alcohol. Last week tight end Marcus Green was arrested for marijuana charges.

Mullen says that the disciplinary action will be appropriate and handled inside the football program.

It is unclear if he will be suspended or for how long with the Bulldogs opening the season Sept. 5 against Jackson State. The two following games will be at SEC foes Auburn and Vanderbilt. Dixon is needed for this offense to compete this season against its tough SEC season, but we will have to wait and see when he will be able to take the field.
