Red Sox Beat A’s 5-2; Beckett Gets 10th win
Wednesday, July 8, 2009Posted by Phillip Lee
Josh Beckett went 6 2/3 against the Oakland A's while giving up 2 runs on 6 hits with 4 strikeouts and a walk in the process which was good enough for his 10th victory of the season.
Although it wasn’t the most spectacular performance by Beckett, it was good enough for Boston who scored 4 of the 5 runs in the first 4 innings behind a solo shot by Jason Bay in the bottom of the 2nd inning.
Dana Eveland took that loss for the A's and left the mound after pitching only 2 2/3 innings.
Beckett’s 10th win makes him the second player in Boston to reach that mark this season. Tim Wakefield, the 42 year old knuckleballer has surprised many people this season pitching well despite his age. He notched his 10th win of the season on June 27th against the Braves which equals the total number of wins from the previous season.
Both pitchers were selected to participate in the upcoming July 14th All-Star game that is being held this season at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
