Bargnani To Get Five More Years in Toronto
Wednesday, July 8, 2009Posted by Jeff Appelblatt
He's not Chris Bosh, but the Raptors want to make sure they don't lose their other big man in 2010---the year of the top-notch free agents.
With his rookie contract coming to an end after next season, the Raptors have reportedly agreed with Andrea Bargnani, the first overall pick in 2006, on a five-year, $50 million contract extension.
In his first two seasons it was questionable if the 7-foot forward/center was the correct choice at No. 1 for Toronto, but last year the 23-year-old demonstrated his talents, scoring 15.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.2 blocks per game, while shooting just under 41 percent from three-point range.
The Raptors are still in the process of finalizing a contract with another international talent, guard/forward Hedo Turkoglu, who is from Turkey, to play alongside Bargnani, from Italy, in 2010.
