Mattias Ohlund, the 12-year veteran of the Vancouver Canucks, has signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Ohlund will have a cap hit of $3.75 million.

The new seven-year contract is worth $24.5 million dollars. It is expected that Ohlund will come in and mentor Tampa’s 1st round, 2nd overall, pick Victor Hedman of Sweden.

Ohlund, a 32-year-old native of Sweden, was also a member of the gold-medal-winning Swedish Olympic team at the 2006 Winter Olympics.

In 770 career regular season games, Ohlund has 93 goals and 232 assists for 325 points. He is the current leader of Vancouver all-time defensemen in goals and points.

Mattias Ohlund was drafted 13th overall by Vancouver in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft.
