Purnell, Clemson agree on extension
Wednesday, June 17, 2009Posted by
Clemson and head basketball coach Oliver Purnell have agreed to terms on a two-year extension to Purnell's contract which already lasted through 2014.
The new deal (which lasts through 2016), will earn Purnell more than $1.3 million a year, an amount most Clemson fans will likely feel is well worth what their basketball program gets in return.
Purnell has led the Tigers to two straight NCAA tournament appearances for the first time since Rick Barnes took the team to three straight from 1996-1998. He has led Clemson to three straight 20-win seasons.
Purnell has also signed the school's first five-star (Milton Jennings) and four-star (Devin Booker) prospects in over a decade.
