Illinois' Weber gets extension and raise

After a surprisingly successful season, university trustees voted Thursday to give Illinois basketball coach Bruce Weber a contract extension and significant raise.
Weber will receive a three-year contract extension, as well as a 50 percent pay raise. The pay increase will start immediately, raising Weber’s pay from $1 million to $1.25 million per year; however, starting in January Weber’s pay will again increase to a total of $1.5 million.
This will be the fourth contract extension for Weber, who will now be under contract until the 2014-1015 season. Weber started his career with the Illini in April of 2003.
Illinois finished last season with a total of 24 wins, and finished an impressive second in the Big Ten. Weber led his team to a No. 5 seed in the NCAA tournament, where they eventually lost in the first round.
“I can’t say enough how happy I am to be here at the University of Illinois and to receive a contract with long-term security,” said Weber to the media. “We are all excited about the potential and future of this program.”
