Kevin Grubb who was suspended three seasons ago by NASCAR has been found dead in a Richmond, VA area hotel. Grubb was just 31.
Lt. Richard Cosby of the Henrico Co. Sherriff’s Dept. said that Grubb was discovered at the Alpine Motel just outside of Richmond. The cause of death is yet to be released, no foul play is suspected.
Grubb was indefinitely suspended by NASCAR on Sept. 11, 2006 after his second violation of NASCAR's substance abuse policy.
The younger brother of former driver Wayne Grubb began in NASCAR in 1997 in the Nationwide Series with Grubb Motorsports. In 1998 he ran 18 races for the team owned by his father and finished second at Dover that year. From 1999 to 2001 he drove for Brewco Motorsports collecting 18 to 10’s during that span. After two down seasons with several teams he joined Team Reno Motorsports in 2004, but failed his first drug test and was suspended.
He failed his second drug test in 2006 after the race at Richmond when he refused to take a drug test after a crash. However Grubb had sustained a concussion and claimed he had no memory of that.
Grubb’s hometown was Mechanicsville, VA just outside of Richmond.
