Bulls, Kings, Blazers Engage in 7-player Deal
Wednesday, February 18, 2009Posted by Jeremy Conlin
The Chicago Bulls, Sacramento Kings, and Portland Trail Blazers announced that they have completed a 3-way trade that includes 7 players. The Bulls receive Brad Miller and John Salmons from Sacramento, who receive Ike Diogu from Portland, along with Andres Nocioni, Drew Gooden, and Cedric Simmons from Chicago. Portland only receives Michael Ruffin from Chicago.
The deal centers around the Kings, who are looking to dump salary, and the Bulls, who are looking to make a push into the playoffs. Sacramento is one of a few teams that could face significant financial difficulties this off-season, with the Salary cap expected to fall, along with the luxury tax threshhold. In the trade, they acquire Drew Gooden's $7.2 Million contract, which expires this summer. Simmons' contract also expires this summer.
The Bulls hope that Brad Miller can improve their interior offense, which has been one of their weak points all season. Salmons gives them depth at the swing positions, and is expected to start with Ben Gordon moving back into a 6th-man role.
The Blazers did not make a major roster shake-up, and were only included in order to make salaries even out for the Kings and Bulls.
