Hokies Look To Be On Top in Atlantic Conference

Last year Virginia Tech beat their overall ranking of 17 to end their season at 15 and at the top of the ACC.

This year, the Hokies hope to build upon that and have set out to dominate the Coastal Division of the ACC in the fall and continue the reign of dominance with bowl appearances and tough post-season play.

With the Chick-Fil-A kickoff game on Sept. 5 against Alabama, Virginia Tech will have a stacked early season against non-division opponents Marshall and Nebraska. All three teams will be tough fights for Frank Beamer and Co. in the early season, but will help to erase any doubts that might be lingering on the abilities of an offense led by Tyrod Taylor and a young defense.

By the time the Hokies square off against Miami on Sept. 26, the team should be running at full capacity and ready for any oppoent that the ACC throws at them. Atlantic Division winner last year Boston College is going through a time of change. With a new head coach at the helm one wonders if they will have the ability to take on VT in a fight this year let alone battle for supremacy of the ACC.

Florida State and Georgia Tech both are contenders for usurping the dominance of Virginia Tech.

The Seminoles from Tallahassee and the Yellow Jackets of Atlanta are both looking good going into the fall and can put a spanner in any plans that the Hokies might have of re-capturing the top of the tower that is ACC football.

With an October of tough fights, with BC, Georgia Tech and North Carolina; VT will be led into fair weather games of November with games against NC State, East Carolina, Maryland and Virginia.

If all goes according to plan, the Hokies will once again find themselves at the top of the ACC and showing their expertise in a bowl game in early January.
