Cardinals talk about Super Bowl XLIII
Tuesday, January 27, 2009Posted by
The NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals lifted off from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Monday amid much excitement from the 1,800 fans that saw them off. The moment they stepped off the plane in Tampa, Florida, the Super Bowl circus began. Tuesday was Super Bowl media day, undoubtedly the craziest football media day of the year. How did the Cardinals handle all the attention? Let's see what they had to say.
Much was made about the argument between Anquan Boldin and Todd Haley that was seen during the 4th quarter of last Sunday's NFC Championship Game. Many people thought that this visible tiff could cause problems for the team in the Super Bowl. Boldin attempted to put the issue to rest on Tuesday.
“I answered all the questions that I was going to answer last week,” Boldin said about his relationship with Haley. “At this point, it’s a non-issue. We put it behind us as a team, and we’re just preparing for the Super Bowl.”
Good for Boldin.
Kurt Warner has been there and done that in the Super Bowl. The Super Bowl XXXIV MVP knows what it takes to be a champion and he believe the Cardinals have that look.
"What I have come to realize in my career is that so much of a team's success is about relationships and chemistry," Warner said. "The Cardinals organization has done a tremendous job putting together good-character guys. You don't hear about our guys getting in trouble or doing bad stuff."
The Cardinals also talked about how they would try to defend Steelers quarterback "Big" Ben Roethlisberger in Sunday's big game. One of the leagues best safties, Adrian Wilson, definitely doesn't think it will be easy.
"He can read coverages and whenever you have a quarterback who can make the right reads and get the ball in the right areas, it's hard to contain a guy like that," he said.
All this talk is entertaining and adds to the spectacle of the event, but in the end Arizona must come to play in the Super Bowl if they want to walk away as champions of the NFL. Surprisingly, the Cardinals seem very poised for a team who has never even come close to a game this big in the Super Bowl era. Will they be able to handle the spectacle when we reach 6:28 PM ET on Sunday? It should be a great game.
